In 2016 the hair industry experienced a major change with the release of the Dyson Supersonic dryer; the concept basically marries the idea behind a fast-drying and intelligent heat control to help protect the shine.

However, the brand didn’t stop there. Three-ish years ago, the brand once again set the internet aflame with rave reviews and viral tutorials with the launch of Dyson Airwrap. I’d never gotten around to trying it until now, and these are my thoughts.

The product: Dyson Airwrap Review

Dyson Airwrap is a hot tool that comes with different styling attachments for styling purposes and allows to style the hair with less heat damage than conventional hair tools.

The device is powered by Dyson’s digital motor V9, which spins up to 110,000 times per minute. It is equipped with intelligent heat control that measures its own temperature more than 40 times per minute to keep it under 302 degrees to prevent heat damage. Impressive right?

Dyson Airwrap comes with six interchangeable magnetic attachments, from a soft smoothing brush to a 40mm barrel and everything in between, ready to leave your hair as perfect as if you were in your hair salon.

But all that innovation comes at a cost. The Airwrap comes in three kits: one for fine hair, one for coarse hair, and one that contains the attachments for both.

Who can use it?

Dyson Airwrap works well for every hair type. Great for those looking for a multi-purpose hot tool that causes less damage to the hair. Think sleek results in fewer passes without a fried-hair smell.

Note that the product has a loyal following thanks to its ability to blow out even the thickest hair in half of the time.

The set comes with: Dyson Airwrap attachments

  • Pre-styling dryer: A smaller but powerful version of Dyson’s supersonic dryer.
  • Soft smoothing brush: Designed for fine hair that provides a smooth finish
  • Firm smoothing brush: Designed for thick hair that provides a straight finish.
  • 40mm barrel: Good for loose curls
  • 30mm barrel: Good for voluminous curls
  • Round volumising brush: Use this attachment if you feel confident with your blowouts and want to look like you’ve walked out of the salon.

The Review: Dyson Airwrap Australia

It’s important to note that washing hair pre-styling is necessary, and you need to let it dry — around 80%— with the Airwrap’s pre-styling dryer — my favourite way — But you can also use the firm smoothing brush or the soft, smooth brush for the same purpose.

As soon as I received the Airwrap, I was intrigued to get my hands on it, but I’d say it took me a solid week to feel confident with the hair tools — especially the Airwrap barrels — as navigating the curling wands was a little tricky, but once I got it, I haven’t stopped using since.

But how do the Airwrap barrels work? These bad boys suck your hair as it’d be a vacuum that makes your hair wrap around the barrel itself without any effort.

Then, once the Dyson Airwrap barrels vacuum up your hair, you let it sit for a few seconds and then blow your hair with the cool shot button on the wand for five more seconds — according to the brand, this helps to lock your curls in place longer. Like a regular curling wand, you’ll get a different curl style based on the way you hold it, but these clever attachments come with two different barrels for each side of your head that indicate the direction you should place the hair, so it makes the job easier.

So the million-dollar question: Is it worth the money? In general, I’m pretty obsessed with Dyson’s lifestyle products, and I own a few of them, so definitely the Airwrap was on my radar for a while. I really enjoy curling my hair, knowing the less damage I’m doing to my hair. Plus, now that we are stuck at home, I look at my Zoom calls as I have walked out of the salon.

But this really depends if you are willing to spend $799 on a hair tool that curls your hair. If you are willing to do this almost every day — Then the Dyson Airwrap is definitely for you, and you won’t look back because it truly leaves the body and volume of a professional blowout.
