What Is Sustainable Fashion and How You Can Support It
There is definitely a misconception about toners. “Toners have advanced substantially over the last few years, yet we are still stuck in an old mindset due to a lack of education surrounding them. If we think about toners of the past, they typically tend to be filled with drying alcohols and stripping ingredients. They were used on a cotton round and associated as a ‘second cleanse’. These old school formulas left our skin ‘tight’ and with a ‘squeaky clean’ feeling, which we now know, is in stark contrast to what the skin needs. Toners should not strip our natural oils in fact, the role of toners today, are balancing the skin’s pH.” Says Katie Howard .
How to apply face toner?
Actually, there is no exact or perfect way to apply face toner. However, our favourite and most sustainable way is applying it directly with our hands, a few drops into the palms of the hands, and then press gently until the toner is completely absorbed.
What are the benefits of using a toner?
Katie Howard says that “Toners are able to help correct our skin’s pH balance, which plays such an important role in maintaining a healthy skin barrier. When our skin is balanced, it is able to protect itself from harsh environmental factors such as bacteria, pollutants and trans-epidermal moisture loss”.
In addition, toners remove traces of impurities. Just remember that toners are not a cleansing product and you shouldn’t replace your facial cleanser with a toner – It’s a complement to your skin care routine to make it more effective in the long run.
What is the best toner for my skin type?
Dry or Sensitive Skin
According to Kate, “Rose Deep Hydration Toner is a daily, non-stripping alcohol-free formula, with real hand-harvested rose petals. Hyaluronic acid deeply hydrates our skin, increasing hydration by 46% for 6 hours, whilst the toning rose fruit extract, soothing rosewater and nourishing rose oil leaves our skin silky feeling soft and prepped for the products you apply after” This toner is great if you have dry or sensitive skin as doesn’t contain any alcohol and is packed of hydrating and calming ingredients.
Oily Skin
If you are on the oily skin side, you should go for toners with acids such as glycolic, as it’s a great exfoliant that helps remove dead cells and cleanse the surface of the skin. Alpha-h Generation Glow Daily Resurfacing is a gentle yet powerful postbiotic-rich AHA exfoliating essence that features five naturally derived AHAs in a proprietary 5% Complex, including hero Lactic Acid, designed to gently resurface and boost luminosity.
Kate also added that “Toners work on the surface layers of the skin, where essences are designed to work from underneath” She recommends the Rose Deep Hydration Toner that hydrates, tones, softens our skin, and refines the look of pores, and the Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence that actually protects our skin from environmental pollution & blue-light, boosts luminosity and smooths skins texture. “In a skincare routine, toners will be applied to the skin post-cleansing and before essence. So in actual fact, these are not mutually exclusive and serve as a perfect pairing in your daily routine!” Says Katie Howard.
