Get to the airport with time
The first thing you need to think about when it comes to making your plane journey that bit easier is how you will get to the airport. You could book a luxury car to get you there, such as a chauffeur, who will pick you up from your desired location and drop you off straight at the airport. If you’re getting public transport, make sure you plan the times well in advance and book your tickets. Don’t get the last one that will get you there on time, just in case it ends up being cancelled or delayed and causes you to be late or stressed about your upcoming journey. You could also book a cab or get a family member to take you, again, just think about the times that are best to leave so you avoid rush hour traffic and get there with plenty of time to spare.
Discover a better way to travel through the airport
Being at the airport can be a stressful experience, but we recommend doing what you can to make it easier. One of the best things to do is to book an airport lounge – there are a myriad to choose from, including those that are complementary with your airline membership, or ones that you can book separately. You can also choose to pay for premium security at the airport, which gets you through much faster. Lounges are a fantastic way to enable you to dine on delicious food, relax in comfort and not have to queue up for a sub-par restaurant in the airport. Just be sure to book in advance to avoid it selling out.
Pack cleverly
The way you pack can have a big impact on how much you enjoy your flight. Try and pack a big for the plane with things in it that can help you to keep entertained and not hungry. You could put things in it such as a skin care routine, eye mask, neck pillow and snacks to pick at while you fly. You could have compression socks, portable chargers and things such as your laptop and phone and headphones to hand. Try to keep your things compact and in easy reach so you don’t need to rifle around when you’re looking for something.
Think about entertainment
One of the hardest things about a long haul flight is keeping yourself entertained. Ensure you download games to play such as spider solitaire, or other games such as crosswords which can keep you distracted and really make the journey that bit more enjoyable. You could bring a portable games console such as a Nintendo Switch where you can play games such as Sims or Animal Crossing and make the time go much faster than it would do otherwise.
Keep hydrated
When you’re up in the air, with air conditioning and at such a high altitude, you are much more likely to become dehydrated. Try and avoid drinking alcohol if you can, or if not, drink plenty of water to combat the dehydrating effects of the alcohol. Bring things such as hand cream to keep your hands moist, and you could consider doing a face mask if you aren’t wearing makeup to try and replenish some of the moisture you have lost and ensure your skin doesn’t suffer too much! This can all help you feel much fresher and better about your flight too.
Bring snacks with you
When you’re up in the air for so long, you are bound to get hungry. Even if you enjoy plane food, it is still a long time to sit still and if you do get hungry, you want to know you’ve got options. We recommend bringing plenty of snacks with you and advise you purchase these before arriving at the airport as they can be extortionate if you leave it until then to buy them! Be sure to check regulations that what you’re bringing with you is allowed and can be brought to other countries where you are flying to.
Pick your outfit accordingly
You’re going to be sitting still and hopefully sleeping when you’re on a long-haul flight, so you want to pick your outfit accordingly. Find something that is super comfortable, won’t be too crumpled when you arrive at your destination and is good for different temperatures. Try to wear layers so you can take some off if it gets too hot, or put more layers on if you find it is chilly with the air con. Wear comfortable shoes and if you wear sandals or open toe shoes, bring socks with you in case you want to take your shoes off.
These are just a few things you can do that can help to make your next long-haul flight that bit easier. No matter the reason you’re traveling, whether you’re heading off to work for a conference or a meeting, or perhaps if you’re going to see friends, family or traveling for a holiday, these tips can help you find the trip that bit more comfortable.
