Squalene vs Squalane?

Squalane is a saturated lipid that is produced when squalene is hydrogenated. However, Squalene with e is an unsaturated oil that occurs naturally in plants like olive or cane sugar and animals like shark liver. It also occurs naturally in our skin. This kind of squalene is super reactive and becomes oxidized quickly, which causes inflammation and can contribute to pimples’ formation. However, once squalene is hydrogenated into squalane, it becomes very stable, very moisturizing, very readily absorbed by the skin, and best of all, squalane is good for acne-prone skin.

Squalane vs Hyaluronic Acid? The Difference

Although the two are produced by our bodies, they are very different. Squalane helps to improve cell development healthily as this mega-hydrator acts as a barrier to keep moisture locked into the skin, leaving this soft, supple, and plump for longer… While hyaluronic acid is a molecule that works as a natural filler, it holds moisture on the skin but you need to have moisture already there.

Can you Use Squalane and Hyaluronic Acid Together?

As both ingredients are great for moisture and hydration, you can definitely use them together and even find amazing products like BIOSSANCE Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum that mix hyaluronic acid squalane, and bakuchiol.

In case you have different serums that contain hyaluronic acid and squalane and you want to mix them, first apply Hyaluronic acid and after is absorbed you can apply squalane on top for maximum hydration

Is Squalane Good for Acne-Prone Skin?

Squalane is ideal for sensitive, mature, and dry skin or for those who are scared to add oils into their skincare routine and breakout. Thankfully, this great ingredient can regulate sebum production, making it perfect for oily and Acne-Prone Skin.
