It’s been five years since Dyson first released its Supersonic Hair Dryer, and our hair has never looked better or felt healthier… well, until a few weeks ago when their new Flyaway Attachment was released. As of now, super sleek blowouts without a flyaway in sight are no longer only available in the salon.
Harnessing the Coanda Effect made famous by Dyson’s Airwrap, the Flyaway Attachment has been expertly engineered to mimic the way professional stylists use a round brush and blowdryer to create smooth, shiny, and flyaway free hair. Speaking about the desire to create the attachment, Dyson Hair Care Category Director, Emma Sheldon explains that, “Traditionally, this skilled technique involves the stylist using a round brush to section and manage the hair, whilst directing airflow from the dryer to push the flyaways into the style and out of sight.”

What Is Face Taping And Can Actually Reduce Wrinkles?
No wonder, so many of us find achieving a perfectly smooth blowout difficult!
Luckily Dyson’s clever engineers understood that we might need some help and have made sure the Flyaway Attachment is easy to use and able to smooth even the most stray of strands without excess heat.
Here’s why we’re loving the Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment.
Dyson’s New Flyaway Attachment Is so easy to use
If you’ve ever dried or styled your hair with the Dyson Supersonic, you’ll know how lightweight and maneuverable its long handle and short dryer head is. This balanced feeling is due to its tiny but powerful digital motor being placed in the handle to maximise control. The motor also spins roughly six times faster than its counterparts to drastically reduce drying and style time while minimising arm strain.
Whether you have curly hair in search of a smooth, straight finish or want to transform straight tresses into a voluminously bouncing blow dry, the Dyson Flyaway Attachment makes it easy. Simply blow dry your hair using the Dyson Supersonic’s gentle or wide tooth comb attachment, click the Flyaway Attachment into place, and feed sections of the outermost layers of your hair across the attachment’s curve from root to tip.
With its rotating head, the Flyaway Attachment even makes – that hard to reach section at the back of your head easy – Simply turn the attachment 45 degrees to achieve the perfect angle.
It does away with breakage and colour loss due to heat damage:
After analysing over 10,000 hours of expert styling footage, Dyson’s engineers realised that while trained stylists can smooth stray hairs with a brush and blowdryer, individuals self styling at home find achieving the necessary angles difficult and often resort to using high heat to tame their stubborn flyaways.
Factoring this into their designs, Dyson has created intelligent heat controls able to measure air temperature and regulate heat over 40 times a second to ensure your hair is never at risk. Air Multiplier technologies also reduce the damage caused by heat exposure by amplifying air pressure to improve shine and minimise styling time.
The attachment itself also manipulates the dryer’s airflow to widen its path, delivering a cooler, more gentle airflow to the scalp and delicate baby hairs. This is particularly beneficial for people with bleached and treated hair as the gentle flow helps to keep the colour brighter for longer and prevent fading. By diffusing the airflow over a larger area, you’ll be able to maintain high heat and pressure settings without the associated damage.
So, despite the truth of celebrity stylist and Dyson Global Styling Ambassador, Jen Atkin’s proclamation that “flyaway frustration is real!”, with Dyson’s Supersonic Hairdryer and Flyaway Attachment; it doesn’t have to be.
If you would like to get your hands on Dyson’s new Flyaway Attachment, the price itself is AUD$99.00, which isn’t bad compared with some premium hair care products; however, this one will never run out. Also, it comes as part of the Supersonic complete set (AUD$599.00). We are sold on this.
