By now, we all know that face lotions are widely known in Japan, and they are the essential and forgiven step between facial cleansing and moisturiser, right? Face lotions are made to prepare the skin before applying skin care products such as serums, ampoules, and moisturisers… As well as bringing to the skin extra hydration that literally changes the skin care game.
I personally didn’t realise how much my favourite serums could work in tandem with face lotions, particularly after trailling Hada Labo Lotion No.1 Super Hydrator.
I guess if the Japanese beauty brand has a cult following, selling one unit every two seconds is for a solid reason.

The product: Hada Labo Lotion No.1 Super Hydrator
The Japanese cult-beauty Hada Labo Tokyo Lotion is a miracle lotion, in essence, that hydrate and prepare the skin for the next steps of the skin care routine. According to the brand, the face lotion is formulated with Hada Labo Tokyo’s iconic Super Hylauronic Acid™, which sinks in quickly and delivers three molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to the skin. But what does it even mean? Well, basically, the Japanese lotion hydrates and penetrate deeper into the skin without leaving any sticky residue.

How to use Hada Labo Lotion?
Adding a face lotion to your existing skin care routine doesn’t really require much effort. All you need to do is apply a bit of the lotion to the palm of your hands and gently pat on your face and neck until fully absorbed. Don’t forget that your skin needs to be completely clean, and you need to apply the lotion before any serums, moisturisers or SPF.
Hada Labo Lotion No.1 Super Hydrator Review
I heard a lot about the miracle results of this brand in the past, but sadly we didn’t have it in Australia until not long ago, so naturally, as soon as the brand hit the shelves at Adore Beauty, I had to put their best selling product to test.
I wasn’t a big believer in the miracles of using a face lotion; I found it an extra step — That never really showed me results — But that was the past until I added Hada Labo Lotion No.1 Super Hydrator to my current routine.
In terms of my skin, I have acne-prone skin, so I’m always a bit worried when I try something “super hydrating”, but fortunately, this wasn’t the case. I combined this Japanese face lotion in the same trial period as my beloved Fresh Tea Elixir Skin Resilience Activating Serum, and the result was just healthy, bouncy skin.
I found that after adding this hydrating lotion to my routine and being consistent with it, my skin barrier got stronger, my skin was plumper, and yes, my acne was completely controlled. I like to apply this Japanese face lotion morning and night before my serum and moisturiser; it sinks in beautifully and doesn’t feel uncomfortable or greasy. Actually all the opposite, as it’s lightweight, doesn’t have any smell and almost feels like you are applying some water to the skin, with the difference that when you are done with your skin care routine and look in the mirror, you look like a glazed doughnut — Which is a good sign for me — I highly recommend it to everyone on the hunt of an affordable product that helps strengthen the skin barrier.
In case you have dry skin, this will save it from patchy, dry skin in a flash.
