Sabbia Co was born after Burleigh Heads Founders Katie, and Dave found themselves on a remote beach in Sri Lanka and devastated over the amount of single-use personal items they were surrounded by. “I grew up in Port Douglas, half Italian / half Australian household. Growing up diving the Great Barrier Reef, camping under the stars and eating 90% homegrown was where I found my deep love and appreciation for the planet”, Katie says.
Katie has a huge passion for skin health and well-being, while Dave is a surfer dude and green thumb. They both do their bit in their home to reduce their footprint but wanted to do more. And that’s why they launched Sabbia Co in September 2019 with three products. Their hero’ face it face kit‘, cleanse kit and tone kit, three kits that remove makeup/zinc, cleanse and exfoliate with just water.
The ethical brand with minimal impact on the environment creates unique facial kits out of sustainable, biodegradable, reusable, and chemical-free tools. “As our community grew, the need for sustainable skincare was a daily request, so for our first birthday, we launched sustainably sourced and packaged skincare. Something I had always dreamt of. Over the years, I have studied Cosmetic Chemistry, Traditional Chinese Medicine (Gua Sha, Facial Massage, etc.), and many other ‘alternative’ (as my Mum might say) practices”, Katie says.

Can you take us through the product range and highlight your favourites?
We have a range of sustainable tools; reusable makeup removing pad, cotton round, headbands, facial brush and biodegradable konjac sponges. These tools can all be used with water for a minimal skincare routine or used in conjunction with our botanical skincare. I believe our formulations have linked the gap between scientifically proven results and natural plant medicine, creating a unique range of products that focus on healing the skin’s barrier (often skin inflammation and irritation is caused by an impaired/damaged skin barrier) while keeping the health of our consumers and the planet are the forefront.
I couldn’t live without our ‘matcha skincare starter kit‘. It has our ‘face it face kit’, which has five reusable, biodegradable and sustainable skin tools to remove makeup/sunscreen, cleanse and exfoliate with water or your favourite cleanser. Which leads into our ‘botanical glow cleanser’ this product, along with our konjac sponge (found in the ‘face it face kit’), has honestly transformed my skin, and now many of our customers.
I use our ‘multi-vitamin moisturiser’ morning and night to protect and strengthen my skin. Alternating between our ‘matcha clay mask’ and using the ‘multi-vitamin moisturiser’ as an overnight mask has also cleared hormonal pimples and old scarring.
3 things that most excite you about the modern beauty industry?
The growing trend of minimalism or in our industry ‘skinimalism’. This excites be for so many reasons; it helps consumers reduce the amount of unnecessary buying (which often ends up in landfill), it educates customers of quality ingredients and how to find the correct products for their skin type and concern, customers are also reducing the amount of heavy makeup (which is damaging for skin health) helping them to embrace their natural beauty, and it is better for the planet.
Sustainability and corporate responsibility: Customers are becoming more savvy and conscious every single day. This drives brands to reduce their footprint and choose cleaner ingredients and more sustainable packaging.
Education: As a brand, Sabbia Co’s strives to educate our customers on skin types, concerns, and ingredients, which allows our customers to make empowered choices for what is best for their skin. It’s exciting to see skincare and beauty consumers becoming eager to understand their skin and what ingredients can do for them.
3 things that most concern you about the beauty industry?
I think sustainability, product transparency and authenticity. Too often, we are seeing brands making claims, whether that be on their sustainable measures, desired results or the quality of the ingredients used.
Can you share some tips that anyone could use to feel confident with their own skin?
Rituals, the more consistent you are with your skincare, the better results you will get. Creating beautiful rituals around your self-care time also instils self-love and self-respect, two things that honestly improve your outlook on yourself, your skin and how to see the world.
What would you say is the key to success in your business?
I always go back to our core values; Authenticity, Quality, Gratitude, Sustainability, Education / Change and Self Love / Care. I believe the way our core values and the way we use them to show up in/for our business, our customers and our products is the reason why we receive such incredible feedback; our return customer rate is three times the industry standard, and we are continuing to flourish.
