Whether you’re a teenager or in your mid-thirties, male or female, you get breakouts multiple times a week or just a few during the month; every time a new pimple comes back again, the frustration is sincere.
Also, the minute the zits clear, we suddenly feel more confident and fresh. However, the only way to keep the skin free of blemishes is to use the right products that make the difference; then, consistency is key, my friends.
As a beauty editor every day, a quite few moisturisers, serum and new products roll past my desk, but when I received SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF, I was intrigued.
If you are already from the SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic team, but your skin tends to purge, stay with me because SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF will be your new go-to serum.

The Product: SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF Review
A new vitamin C antioxidant serum for oily and blemish-prone skin.
The Science
With six years in the making, the oil-free vitamin C antioxidant serum is designed to treat oily and blemish-prone skin, dark spots, visible signs of ageing and environmental damage.
SkinCeuticals has identified a new opportunity in the application of topical antioxidants to help prevent oil oxidation. “The oxidative theory of ageing is well established in the scientific community. With this launch, we’re bringing the oxidative theory of blemish formation to light – the idea that oxidation can also lead to breakouts, specifically from oxidation of sebum,” said Leslie Harris, Global General Manager of SkinCeuticals.
“Through six years of persevering research, we have been able to develop a synergistic vitamin C antioxidant formula for those with oily or blemish-prone skin so they can confidently incorporate a vitamin C into their skincare regimen. It features silymarin, a potent antioxidant derived from the milk thistle plant, demonstrated to help inhibit oil oxidation.”
The Ingredients
- Silymarin
- L-ascorbic acid
- Ferulic Acid
- Salicylic Acid
The Review
I’ve suffered acne since I can even remember, and even though my skin has been through different phases, I still get some hormonal acne, particular on my jawline, from time to time, which is quite annoying. I’m really devoted to SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic, and I always come back to this product, so I was excited to put its sister to the test and see the difference between SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic and SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF.
I’ve been trialling Silymarin CF serum for about two weeks, and it was perfect timing to put it to the test. I was having a terrible reaction in my skin, and even though I know skin care products take time to do the job, this product gives me results in a flash. The reason why? Unlike any other serum on the market, SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF contains the magic blend of 0.5% of silymarin and combines 15% L-ascorbic acid, 0.5% ferulic acid, and 0.5% salicylic acid. Sounds pretty good, right?
“Silymarin CF contains a comprehensive formula that has been scientifically proven to prevent free radical damage caused by oil oxidation, so the vitamin C antioxidant serum not only reduces oiliness and blemishes, it also minimises visible signs of ageing,” Dr. Shobhan added.
The texture is a lightweight, non-greasy formula, and it has a similar funny smell to the cult beauty product SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic.
I like to apply it in the morning after cleansing, four to five drops — It sinks into my skin very quickly — Then, I apply moisturiser and, more important, SPF.
After just one week of using SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF, I noticed that my skin looked clear and brighter. In week number two — when I’m now — I haven’t got any new zits, and my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations are fading, meaning I have no plans to stop using this product.
I absolutely recommend it if you have acne-prone skin. I have struggled to find a good vitamin C serum in the past that actually work for me as most of them tend to break out my skin but luckily, with Silymarin CF, this problem is no longer on my list.
The bad side? The $228 investment, but I can say it’s worth every penny if you are looking for a good serum that treats your acne while fading acne scars.
SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF is available for $228. Stockists and partnering clinics can be found here.
