What Is Slugging?
The term Slugging is all about finishing our beauty routine by putting a thin layer of Vaseline after your face cream to help lock in hydration.
The reason why? Vaseline creates a barrier on the skin that prevents moisture from evaporating, thus keeping the skin moist and leaving it smoother the day after.
In any case, putting a whole layer of Vaseline on the skin is not for everyone — especially if you don’t like any greasy sensation on the skin — For some reason, beauty experts recommend applying Vaseline in your moisturiser. This way, it is not applied directly, and the serum that has been previously used is locked, so you can get even more benefits and effectiveness while you sleep. Still not convinced? Also, Slugging helps with water loss, maintaining the skin’s moisture.
How does slugging work?
- Do your regular night skincare routine (avoiding face oils or spot treatments)
- Spread a pea-sized scoop of Vaseline over your skin.
- Cleanse well the morning after to remove any excess Vaseline.
What do you need?
All you need is Vaseline. Try to avoid scented vaselines and keep the container as hygienic as possible – If you get your Vaseline in a jar, do not put your fingers, just use a spatula to take the amount of product you want to use.
The Bottom Line
If you are into sustainability or have acne-prone skin — like me — probably Slugging is not for you as it may clog pores.
The skincare industry is slowly changing to less toxic skincare products, so it’s always better to get products more natural such as shea butter or rosehip oil to hydrate the skin and seal in moisture and your skin-care. As you know, it is all about personal preferences, and I will continue trying everything in the name of beauty — Just without slugging my face —
